With the BJP up in arms over the reported reference to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the draft report of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on 2G spectrum allocation,JPC Chairman P C Chacko clarified on Tuesday that there was no mention of the former PM in the report, even as he demanded an inquiry into the leakage of the report.
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj has also said that the report has made allegations against Vajpayee. We have the highest regard for Vajpayee. This report has not mentioned the name of Vajpayee, Chacko said here.
Rebutting former Telecom minister A Rajas claim in his letter to the committee that he had kept Prime Minister Manmohan Singh informed about all 2G-related decisions,Chacko said that there was nothing new in Rajas letter. What Raja said yesterday is nothing new. Every paper Raja sent, every page,we already had. Not a single word was new, said the JPC Chairperson contending that the committee decided not to summon Raja as there were 10 Telecom ministers during the period under the committees terms of reference. I had discussions with him Raja. I told him if I call you, propriety demanded that I called others also. As a very special case,I asked for his written submission, he said.
As for the leakage of the report,I am the most aggrieved person. I think it should be gone into and an inquiry should be held. Whenever I circulated any confidential document, the next day it went to the media, he said.
