Nauka Dubi,a bilingual,Kashma-kash in Hindi is an adaptation of Rabindranath Tagore8217;s novel by the same name. The film is Subhash Ghais tribute to Tagore on the occasion of the eminent Bengali poets 150th birth anniversary. Based in the 1920s,the film tells the tale of four cross-wired lovers. Ramesh,who is in a relationship with his friend8217;s sister Hemnalini,agrees to marry Susheela,the daughter of a hapless widow,at his parent8217;s behest. The wedding takes place and Ramesh,who hasn8217;t seen the face of his young bride,sets out with her on a boat journey back to Kolkata. But a storm suddenly wells up and the boat capsizes. Later that night,Ramesh gains consciousness on a deserted shore and on seeing the unconscious form of a young bride rushes to her side and calls out her name. The young woman opens her eyes and mistaking Ramesh to be her groom,goes with him to Kolkata. Back in Ramesh8217;s home,the facts of a mistaken identity gradually come to light. Ramesh learns that he has actually mistaken his wife Susheela for Kamala,the wife of a doctor named Nalinak-sha Chatterjee. Meanwhile,a heartbroken Hemnalini travels to Kashi where she meets Nalinaksha. Back in Kolkata,Kamala gets to know that Ramesh is not her husband and tries to attempt suicide but is rescued by a courtesan and is deposited in Kashi under Nalinaksha8217;s mother8217;s care. At Kashi,Kamala meets her real husband but,before she can tell him the truth,she gets to know that Nalinaksha is engaged to Hemnalini.

Will the lovers meet or will destiny take its course? In 1906,when Tagore penned Nauka Dubi,a novel based on an upper middle-class family in Bengal,the book was criticised for being way ahead of its time.

Producer Subhash Ghai says: Nauka Dubi is a contemporary tale with an interesting love story. It keeps in mind the values of the society in the times in which it is based. It is a film that is made under my banner because its made from the heart. As a producer,I am happy that I have a brilliant script and the best actors.

This is the first time that Raima and Riya Sen are acting in the same film. Surprisingly,the sisters don8217;t have a single scene together.
