Giving credence to some theories that the attack on Sarabjit Singh in a Pakistani prison may have been pre-planned,a panel of doctors

Giving credence to some theories that the attack on Sarabjit Singh in a Pakistani prison may have been pre-planned,a panel of doctors, which conducted the second autopsy in Punjab Friday said the motive behind the assault was to kill him and there might be more than two attackers.

It was a clear case8230;the motive of attack on Sarabjit was to kill him, Dr Gurmanjit Rai,Head of Forensic Science Department,Government Medical College and Hospital here, who led the five-member doctors panel, said.

Sarabjits second post-mortem,after the first one done at Lahore in Pakistan, was conducted by the panel, which also comprised Sudhir Khichi Head,Surgery,H S Sohal,Head,Medicine,Amarjit Singh Head,Pathology and Veena Chatrath Head,Anaesthesia.

The second autopsy was conducted at Patti hospital in Tarn Taran district late Thursday night after Sarabjits body was flown to India from Pakistan in a special plane.

Sarabjits body bore multiple injuries, indicating that there were certainly more than two persons who attacked him inside the jail, the panels report said.

A single man cannot harm a healthy person like Sarabjit the way he received injuries8230;there were certainly more persons who attacked him, one of the doctors said, adding that the injuries were 6-7 days old.

Sarabjits skull was broken into two pieces, jaw and bones were fractured and certain vital organs from the body were not present, the doctor said.

However,Rai said that the findings by the panel were by and large in consonance with the findings of post mortem in Pakistan shared with India and mentioned in the death certificate of Sarabjit.

He added that he was presuming that the vital organs, which were not present, including the heart, gall bladder and kidneys, could have been taken out for medical examinations, including the chemical examination,by doctors in Pakistan as standard procedure.

The autopsy report did not give the cause of death and the press note carrying a brief on post mortem released to media said: The cause of death is kept pending on account of reports of Chemical Examiner,Government Of Punjab,Kharar, the report of Histopathology from HOD Pathology,Govt Medical College,Amritsar, and consultation of treatment record of Jinha sic Hospital,Lahore Pakistan and report of previous post mortem conducted in Pakistan including various tests reports.

Meanwhile, the panel observed that death of Sarabjit was likely to have occurred in about 24 hours time from the attack. As per death certificate issued by Pakistan, the cause of Sarabjits death was mentioned as Cardio Pulmonary arrest following a severe head injury.
