Modi magic may not work everywhere: Sushma

Sushma Swaraj said Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi was unlikely to campaign for the Bihar.

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj on Monday said Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi was unlikely to campaign for the Bihar Assembly polls as his magic need not work everywhere.

Addressing reporters in the Bihar capital before hitting the campaign trail for the third-phase of elections in West Champaran,Gopalganj,Siwan,Saran and Vaishali on October 28,the senior BJP leader said the state had its own magicians in Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his deputy Sushil Kumar Modi.

Replying to media queries on why Narendra Modi was not invited to campaign in Bihar after the BJPs grand victory in municipal elections in Gujarat,Swaraj said: Narendra Modi is magician of Gujarat whereas Nitish Kumar and Sushil Kumar Modi are Bihar magicians. What is the need of Narendra Modi here?

Sensing that her statement could give rise to a controversy vis-a-vis the BJPs internal politics, she immediately added that Nitish Kumar had not put any precondition before the BJP for the Bihar campaign.

BJP and JD-U are separate parties with different sets of political ideologies. We are bound by a common minimum programme, Swaraj said.

L K Advani, while campaigning in Hajipur and Bettiah, unlike his earlier speeches, refrained from mentioning Gujarat as a model of development.

Now even Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has conceded that Bihar has made rapid progress in the past five years. When the PM accuses the NDA government of taking credit for development with Central funds,it surely means that the Congress has accepted the states progress, Advani said.
