MLA deserts Cong ahead of Meghalaya bypoll

In a serious blow to the Congress’ ambition of grabbing power if it wins the Umroi Assembly bypoll in Meghalaya on Thursday....

In a serious blow to the Congress’ ambition of grabbing power if it wins the Umroi Assembly bypoll in Meghalaya on Thursday,the Donkupar Roy-led Meghalaya Progressive Alliance (MPA) coalition government brought Independent legislator Limison Sangma into its fold from the Congress camp on Tuesday.

While Sangma,one of the two Independents in the Congress camp,increases the strength of the MPA government in the Assembly to 33 legislators,the Congress’ number is now down to 26. The Congress had earlier been confident of wresting the Umroi seat.
