Mirchpur: HC orders probe

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has ordered an inquiry to verify the authenticity of allegations levelled by two accused.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has ordered an inquiry to verify the authenticity of allegations levelled by two accused involved in the Mirchpur fire incident in which a disabled girl and her father were charred to death in April this year. Dalbir Singh and Ajit, both residents of Mirchpur who are lodged in the Hisar Central Jail at present, had filed a petition in the High Court on which Union Minister for Tourism Kumari Selja had been served notices.

Stating that they had never made Selja a party to the case, the two moved an application in the court saying they wanted to change their lawyer. The High Court has directed the Hisar jail superintendent to record the statements of Dalbir and Ajit in the presence of two independent witnesses to find out the veracity of the allegations. On November 29,the HC removed Seljas name from the list of respondents in

the petition that had accused her of spreading communal violence and being responsible for the outbreak of violence between Jat and Balmiki communities in the Mirchpur case.
