Call it supreme confidence in times of acute adversity,or simply a smart way of escaping from ones responsibility. Human Resource Development Minister M M Pallam Raju was on Friday asked about the fate of several education Bills that are pending in Parliament,now that there are only two sessions remaining before the country goes to polls next year. The minister replied that the Bills will be passed in the Monsoon session or after the UPA comes back to power next year.

Bonding over Rosogolla

AN interesting story is doing the rounds about the recent face-off between India and China in Ladakh sector,that got sorted out recently. A harmless rosogolla said to be the reason for the removal of a high-ranking Chinese official from the delegation that was talking to the Indians. The story goes that during one of the flag meetings,the Indians had offered rosogollas to the Chinese. This particular officer took a liking for it,and apparently asked for them in the next flag meeting as well. The request did not go down well with his superiors and the Indians later realised that the officer did not turn out for future meetings. While the truth about rosogollas might never be known,the story is certainly bringing some smiles to the Indian side.

Missing officer

THE Women and Child Development Ministry is getting used to working without a secretary. The incumbent,Prem Narain,has been on leave for medical reasons for about a month now. Nita Chowdhury,Youth Affairs Secretary who was given additional charge,has now gone on a weeklong trip to China. Things in the interim have come to such a pass that all the files are being sent straight to the ministers office.

Spotlight on goat

AFTER spotting former railway minister Pawan Kumar Bansal and his wife at his residence talking to somebody who had a goat in his arms,TV channels went into overdrive,with many channels suggesting that the goat might be for sacrifice in order to bring good omen to the embattled minister who had to resign later in the evening on Friday. It took some time for Bansals aides to explain that the minister is a strict vegetarian and very religious-minded but not superstitious. All that he had done was to feed the goat,it was explained.
