Making a visual impact

Trinamool Congress goes all out to lure voters with a multimedia blitzkrieg in a do-or-die elections

Multimedia tableaux, video screens and giant illuminated billboards this is no corporate presentation but the Trinamool Congresss latest campaign weapons.

The Assembly elections is going to be decisive one for the Trinamool and the party is pulling out all stops to ensure its message reaches voters at every nook and corner of the state.

The mobile multimedia tableaux with LED screens will be rolling out in Kolkata and the urban areas. Mamata Banerjee has a collection of CDs of different instances of state-sponsored violence on innocent people, police brutalities on villagers and students, nepotism within the police, etc. These CDs,along with documentaries on Mamata, will be played on these screens, said MLA Madan Mitra.

The video-screen tableaux will be moved across prominent locations for people to see. Along with these, around 20 tableaux with giant illuminated billboards are going to tour Kolkata, small towns and remote villages. Pictures of torture on villagers, allegedly by police and CPM men, will be displayed.

These will not cause any noise pollution but will create a tremendous visual impact on the minds of the people. Scenes like the police kicking rice pots in Nandigram and mothers and wives crying after the loss of their children and husbands will be displayed, said party vice-chairman Subrata Mukherjee.

Concepts like these will not be restricted to tableaux, and will appear on posters and banners as well. The idea is to create hard-hitting,sleek and corporate posters and banners, which will create a very strong visual impact on onlookers, said Leader of the Opposition Partha Chatterjee.

Along with a generous dosage of the usual Left bashing, the party has promised innovative slogans as well. The first posters have already appeared. Slogans like Ami Aschi Iti Paribartan,I am coming. Change have appeared in several busy thoroughfares of Kolkata.

Another poster depicts a stunned Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee saying Ami jachchi,I am leaving and a smiling Mamata saying Ami aschi I am coming.

More quirky slogans like these will appear. We are taking help from pro-change intellectuals to design the posters, banners as well as the party manifesto. For the first time,we are getting suggestions directly from the people, said Mitra.

Every election merchandise will have pictures of Mamata Banerjee on them. Colourful hydrogen balloons with the message vote for TMC written on them will be floated at several important locations of the city.

In the realm of verbal campaign, the main focus of the party will be establishing as much personal contact with the electorate as possible.

Prime importance has been given on carrying out door-to-door

campaigns.
