Jet from New York crashes in Guyana
GEORGETOWN: A Caribbean Airlines jet from New York crashed and broke in two while landing in Guyana with 163 people aboard on Saturday,causing several injuries but no deaths,said President Bharrat Jagdeo. The Boeing 737-800 overshot the 2,200-metre runway at Cheddi Jagan International Airport in rainy weather. It barely missed a 60-metre ravine that could have resulted in dozens of fatalities,he said.
NYT scribe to testify in ex-CIA mans trial
Alexandria: A federal judge ruled that a New York Times reporter must testify at the trial of a former CIA officer charged with leaking classified information about Iran,but limited the scope of what he could be asked. Prosecutors have subpoenaed Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter James Risen to testify at the September trial of Jeffrey Sterling,an ex-CIA officer.
UNSC sanctions on Pak Taliban
United Nations: The UN Security Council has slapped sanctions,including an assets freeze and travel ban,on the Pakistani Taliban,believed to be behind a string of terror attacks in that country and last years botched bombing attempt on New Yorks Times Square. The Council on Friday put the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan on its international anti-terrorism sanctions list.
