Mamatas mother on life support

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjees mother Gayetri Banerjee was admitted to the state-run SSKM Hospital here and put on life support on Saturday. Gayetri Banerjee,81,underwent dialysis and her condition was stable but critical,said Director of Medical Education Sushanta Banerjee. The Chief Minister visited her mother in the evening.

Reddy camp MLAs,MLC face BJP action

BELLARY: A day after cracking the whip against two MPs loyal to the Reddy brothers,the BJP in Karnataka on Saturday suspended four legislators of their camp. MLAs G Somashekara,B Nagendra,H T Suresh Babu and MLC Mruthyunjaya Jinaga faced the action for campaigning for close associate of Reddy brothers,B Sreeramulu,who is contesting the Bellary Rural segment bypoll as Independent candidate.

Pawar doesnt deserve to be slapped publicly: Sena

Mumbai: The Shiv Sena has said there are several political leaders from the state who deserved to be slapped publicly but NCP president and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar is not one of them. It was referring to the assault on Pawar in New Delhi on Thursday. An editorial in party mouthpiece Saamna on Saturday said the party would not support such an attack on Pawar though it had political differences with him. It said there were many leaders,both in the state and Delhi,who deserved such a treatment. Terming the incident as unfortunate and enraging,it said the manner in which a youth could enter a public function and attack a senior leader raised questions about the security provisions in Delhi.

BJP fumes over Digvijayas Marshal tweet

Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singhs remark suggesting use of Marshals to ensure smooth running of Parliament has kicked up a row with BJP seeking clarification from Congress chief Sonia Gandhi.

Congress distanced itself from Singhs remarks,saying it did not want to comment.

Another day wasted in Parliament. It hasnt used Institution of Marshals in Parliament since 2004 to make it function. High time they did! Singh said on Twitter.

BJP spokesperson Prakash Javdekar said,We strongly condemn the statement8230;. This is highly undemocratic. We want to ask the UPA chairperson if the government wants to run Parliament by force. Sonia Gandhi should clarify8230;..

Tremors felt near Mullaiperiyar dam

Minor tremors continued to trigger panic among the people of Idukki district,where the 116-year-old Mullaiperiyar dam and a few major reservoirs of state electricity board are located.

Three minor aftershocks with a magnitude of 3.4 in the Richter scale reported in several parts of the district early morning. Since July this year,Idukki district has been witnessing minor quakes with a magnitude of less than 4 in the Richter scale,said Dr John Mathai,a scientist with Thiruvananthapuram-based Centre for Earth Science Studies.

Mathai,a member of the expert team studying the tremors,said minor aftershocks would continue to occur in the region.
