Lapang faces revolt,rushes to Delhi

As Congress dissidents upped their campaign against Chief Minister D D Lapang by camping in New Delhi,the latter rushed to the national Capital on Monday to meet the party high-command.

As Congress dissidents upped their campaign against Chief Minister D D Lapang by camping in New Delhi,the latter rushed to the national Capital on Monday to meet the party high-command.

Some senior Congress legislators had asked Lapang to drop three Independents MLAs Ismail R Marak,Limison Sangma,A T Mondal and Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement KHNAM leader Paul Lyngdoh from the Cabinet and induct Congressmen who were left out.

When it became apparent that Lapang will not concede,the dissident Congress legislators,led by state party president Lyngdoh,rushed to New Delhi to with their demands on Friday. The 12 Congress legislators demanded replacement of Lapang from the CMs post.

Before leaving for Delhi,Lapang said,As a Chief Minister,I should not create confusion. I will go and talk to them dissidents and accordingly if I have to step down I will do so. Talking about Paul Lyngdoh,Lapang said he knows about the discontentment arising out of his presence in the Cabinet. Lyngdoh will understand if I drop him, he said.
