A day after a special CBI court sentenced her to five years in connection with her daughters abduction,Punjab cabinet minister Bibi Jagir Kaur resigned on Saturday.
Kaur sent her resignation to Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal who forwarded it to Punjab Governor for its acceptance with immediate effect, according to a PTI report. It quoted a spokesperson for the Chief Ministers Office as saying that Kaur resigned on moral grounds following her conviction.
The 57-year-old,who held portfolios of Rural Water Supply and Sanitation and Defence Services Welfare, was sentenced for conspiring in forcible abortion and abduction in connection with the mysterious death of her daughter Harpreet Kaur in 2000.

Bibi told us that she was grateful to the people who still love and respect her and have shown trust in her in this hour of need, said one of the visitors.
