Ishrat case: HC says may revive SIT

The Gujarat High Court Friday indicated it might reconstitute the Special Investigation Team SIT formed by a single-judge bench to probe into various allegations levelled in the 2004 Ishrat Jahan encounter case. The three-member SIT is lying defunct for long after it applied for an extension.

A Bench of Justices Jayant Patel and Abhilasha Kumari made a remark in this regard while hearing a bunch of petitions demanding a CBI probe into Ishrat fake encounter.

The state government submitted a report containing summary of SITs investigation so far. The report says SIT has recovered the weapons used by police officers in the encounter. The HC had on Thursday had ordered the SIT to submit a summary of its work done in the case.

The SIT was constituted by Justice K S Jhaveri,with IPS officers Pramod Kumar,Mohan Jha and J K Bhatt as its members.
