On a day Union Home Minister P Chidambarams visit to Islamabad was deferred for the time being,India proposed two sets of dates in February for a meeting between the Foreign Secretaries of the two countries.

The dates were proposed during a 45-minute meeting between Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao and Pakistan High Commissioner Shahid Malik in the South Block. The meeting came about 10 days after Rao had spoken to her Pakistani counterpart Salman Bashir and proposed talks with him, said sources.

Describing the Friday meeting as positive and constructive, the Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Vishnu Prakash said Pakistans response for mutually convenient dates was awaited.

Malik termed the meeting useful and good and said we discussed the possible agenda and the dates for the meeting8230; We have to find mutually convenient time and dates.

Terrorism would certainly be one of the areas of discussion because we have issues relating to terrorism that we would also like to talk about, and this is something which affects Pakistan8230; This is not to say that if India raises terrorism then we will shy away from that. We also have issues to talk about in that context, he said.

Asked if there would be resumption of the composite dialogue stalled after the Mumbai attacks, the Pakistani envoy refused to prejudge but said we have agreed in the past that dialogue is the only way forward.

On Kashmir,Malik said Pakistan had been raising this issue with India at every possible opportunity and fora and would continue to do so. It is something we have been talking with India in the past and we will continue doing that, he added.
