History lessons for Modi?

Congress leaders are having fun at the expense of BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

Congress leaders are having fun at the expense of BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. “Modi says Vivekananda (died in 1902) was in regular contact with S P Mukherjee (born in 1901). Comical blunders to prove his knowledge & education?” tweeted Congress general secretary Shakeel Ahmed on Monday. Earlier, his party colleague Digvijaya Singh tweeted,“If BJP is really serious about his being PM-in-waiting,shouldn’t Sushma Swaraj/ Murli Manoharji or some eminent historian be tutoring him?”

Father of the bride

These days,Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan is busy with the preparations for his daughter Ankita’s wedding in Delhi on Friday. Ankita,an architect,is getting married to Prakhar Bhandari,an IT professional who hails from a non-political family based in Delhi. Chavan plans to organise a reception for his friends and political colleagues from the state later in Mumbai. As the invitation card carried only Chavan’s name without any mention of his chief ministerial position, some of his party colleagues were noticed checking whether it’s the “same Prithviraj Chavan”.

THAT sons and daughters of Congress bigwigs manage to get party tickets is old news. But now,it seems that family background may also be a factor in constituting the party’s media panel. According to the grapevine, the party is set to induct some new faces as spokespersons and television panelists. Among those under consideration are C K Kesavan, grandson of C Rajagopalachari, and Saifiddin Soz’s son Salman Anees Soz. Former Vice President Kishan Kant’s son Rashmi Kant and former President V V Giri’s grandson A P Parigi are already helping the media department in formulating its strategies.

Ouster over SMS

Senior IPS officer Arun Kumar, who was ADG (law and order) when the Muzaffarnagar riots broke out in Uttar Pradesh, was reportedly removed from his post after he sent an SMS to Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav. While the contents of the SMS are not known,it is learnt that the CM was unhappy about the fact that he had copied the message to some other officers in the state. Kumar is yet to be given a posting. Incidentally,Kumar also handled the investigation into the Aarushi-Hemraj murder case when he was on central deputation with the CBI.
