The historic Empress Garden Flower Show 2026 will be dedicated to Padma Bhushan late Dr Madhav Gadgil, senior environmentalist and an honorary member of the Agri-Horticultural Society of Western India. Organisers said the tribute is aimed at recognising Gadgil’s lifelong contribution to environmental protection and conservation.
The exhibition will be formally inaugurated on Friday, January 23 at 12 noon by Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar at the Empress Garden premises. A special tribute meeting will be held immediately after the inauguration to express gratitude and pay homage to Dr. Gadgil’s work in safeguarding India’s ecological heritage.

Like every year, the grand flower show will be organised at the heritage Empress Garden in Pune. The exhibition will be open to the public from January 23 to 27. On the opening day, it will remain open from 1 pm to 7 pm, while from January 24 to 27, timings will be 9 am to 7 pm.
Organisers highlighted that Japanese-style ikebana flower arrangements and an impressive display of bonsai trees will be among the major attractions this year. The show is also expected to witness state-level participation, with renowned nursery professionals from Pune, Kolhapur, Sangli, Nashik, and other regions taking part.
A series of competitions including flower arrangement, fruit and vegetable contests, and attractive pot competitions have been organised for gardening enthusiasts, with no entry fee. Notably, over 800 students from various schools have registered for painting and handwriting competitions, encouraging creativity and environmental awareness among children.

Managed by the Agri-Horticultural Society of Western India, established in 1830, the Empress Garden continues to serve as a living legacy of Pune’s green heritage. Organisers said the flower show is planned not merely for entertainment, but to instill love for nature and environmental responsibility among citizens. The public has been urged to attend in large numbers to enjoy the floral exhibition and pay tribute to Dr Gadgil.
