Hindu Munnani cadres attack protesting villagers

The fourth round of the talks between agitating local villagers and authorities over the commissioning of the nuclear power plant at Koodankulam came to an abrupt halt

The fourth round of the talks between agitating local villagers and authorities over the commissioning of the nuclear power plant at Koodankulam came to an abrupt halt on Tuesday after representatives of the protesters came under attack from a group of Hindu Munnani activists who have been demanding speedy commissioning of the plant.

The incident took place at the Thirunelveli collectorate on Tuesday where the protesters were to meet the expert committee set up by the Centre.

The cadres of fringe outfit Hindu Munnani, who have alleged that activists were prompted and funded by Christian missionaries, pelted stones at their vehicle.

This led to a skirmish, after which the anti-nuclear activists boycotted the fourth round meeting and threatened to call off further talks.
