In a fresh twist to the unfolding interrogation, suspected LeT operative Safiqul changed his nearly week-old version that he had only facilitated the infiltration of two low-ranking LeT terrorists across the Indo-Bangla border, and confessed to CID interrogators on Friday that he had helped Hizbul Mujahideen co-founder Mohammad Ahsan Dar cross the border in April last year and facilitated his journey to New Delhi,DIG CID Operations Siddh Nath Gupta told The Indian Express.
Dar was arrested in Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday in what was a major catch for the J-K Police. Former Hizb chief Dar is a close associate of current commander Syed Sallahuddin and was co-ordinating activities of the LeT,Hizbul Mujahideen,Jaish-e-Mohammad and Harkat-ul-Mujahideen in the Valley,DIG North Kashmir Abdul Gani Mir had told reporters in Baramulla following Dars arrest. Dar had broken away from the Hizbul to form the Muslim Mujahideen in 1992.
CID sources said Safiqul had used the same route across the border at Lalgola in Murshidabad district while bringing Dar in from Dhaka.
