The government is planning to introduce a common entrance test for admission to flying training institutes across the country, said a government official. There are about 40 institutes in India that cumulatively impart pilot training to 2,500 individuals per year.
The proposal for a common entrance test,on the lines of medical and engineering entrance test,is on the drawing board, said a Civil Aviation Ministry official. The move gained currency after the cases of pilots forging documents to obtain licence came to light, the official added. As of now, there are no minimum qualification criteria to select applicants to these institutes or clubs. The government will soon lay down guidelines and stipulate benchmarks for admission to these institutes, said another official.
