A 15-year-old girl,who was battling for life for the last four days after being allegedly set ablaze by three youths after she resisted their attempt to rape her,died Sunday.
The girl had sustained 60 per cent burn injuries and was undergoing treatment at the Gandhi Government Hospital,
Malkajgiri Assistant Commissioner of Police P V Padmaja said. He said special police teams have been formed to trace three accused,who are still at large.
The girl,a resident of Padmarao Nagar,was allegedly taken to a room in Kushaiguda on the outskirts of Hyderabad by the three youths on Wednesday,tied her up and tried to rape her. When she resisted their attempts,they set her on fire and fled,police said. The girl was rescued and shifted to the hospital by the locals.
Police said investigations had revealed that the accused befriended the girl and took her to Vijayawada on March 11,where they stayed for three days. They then brought her back to Hyderabad and confined her to a room in Kushaiguda,where she was later set on fire.
Parents of the girl had lodged a complaint with Chilkalguda Police after she went missing.
