Vemula suicide: Doctor rejects Irani's claim about scholar's death

Hyderabad, Feb 26 (ANI): The on-duty Chief Medical Officer M. Rajshree, who confirmed Dalit scholar Rohith Vemula's death, has repudiated HRD Minister Smriti Irani's assertion in the Parliament, saying she had reached the scene in three-five minutes. She further said that a group of students took her to the room where Rohith had attempted suicide and the police asked her if she could predict the time of Vemula's death. Irani on Wednesday pointed out that according to a report submitted to the Telangana High Court, the police had reached the hospital at 7:20 pm when they found the body.

Hyderabad: Nampally Court sends ISIS suspects to 3 days remand

Hyderabad, Jan 23 (ANI): The Nampally Court in Hyderabad on Saturday has sent ISIS suspects Abu Anas and Mohammad Shareef Moinuddin Khan to three days of transit remand. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had arrested 14 suspects till Friday from various parts of the country planning to carry out terrorist activities. The agency also claimed to have seized certain "incriminating" articles, mobile phones, laptops, unaccounted cash, jihadi literature and videos, besides materials for preparation of bombs from their places.

Hyderabad, Jan 19 (ANI): The members of the Telangana's Jagruti Yuva Morcha staged a protest outside Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya's residence in Hyderabad on Tuesday, demanding justice and compensation of Rs. 50 lakhs for a Dalit PhD scholar. In a tragic incident, a Dalit PhD scholar Rohith Vemula was found hanging at a central university's hostel room in Hyderabad on Sunday. Rohith, a resident of Guntur, was pursuing his PhD in society studies from the university. Union Minister for Labour Bandaru Dattatreya has been charged with abetment to suicide. A case has been filed against Dattatreya, University of Hyderabad Vice Chancellor Apparao, ABVP activist Susheel Kumar and his brother Vishnu by the Hyderabad police under section 306A. Meanwhile, the HRD ministry has asked a two-member panel to probe the case.
