The Kerala forest department on Thursday filed a case in a court against Padma Shri winner and Malayalam actor Mohanlal as a sequel to the recovery of a pair of elephant tusks from his residence during an IT raid last year.

The case was registered at the first class magistrate court at Perumbavoor near Kochi to ascertain whether the actor, who enjoys the honorary rank of Lt Colonel in the Territorial Army, has violated the section 44 of the Indian Wildlife Act.

Forest range officer I P Sanil, who is investigating the case, said the forest department was looking if Mohanlal possessed the tusks illegally.

Sanil said the actor had obtained the tusks from a person, who had a valid license to possess them. Mohanlals statement would be recorded,he said.
