For 2nd year,Indore,Bhopal topped crime rate: Report

Indore,considered to be the commercial capital of Madhya Pradesh,topped the crime record in the country for the second consecutive year in 2009,followed by Bhopal,a report said.

Crime rate of Indore was 860.3,which was the highest in the country,according to National Crime Records Bureaus report Crime in India 2009. Bhopal followed with the crime rate of 836.4 in the same year,while Jaipur stood third with crime rate of 722.4 followed by Kochi at 646.3.

The report was based on cases registered in the cities which had more than 10 lakh population as per 2001 census.

In 2008 also,Indore had topped the crime record in the country and Bhopal had stood second with crime rates of 941.4 and 791.4 per cent,respectively. The MP government introduced Senior Superintendent of Police SSP system 2009 to check increasing crime-levels in both the cities.
