A day after former Haryana deputy chief minister Chander Mohan aka Chand Mohammad disappeared from his home,his second wife Fiza attempted suicide by taking an overdose of a sedative usually prescribed as an anti-depressant. She was taken to the Government Medical College and Hospital where doctors later said her condition was stable. They added that she would be kept under observation for the next 24 hours. The Mohali Police have booked Fiza,a former law officer who had to quit after she and Chand converted to Islam to get married,on charges of attempt to commit suicide. A case has been registered against her at the Phase-XI Police Station in Mohali. Fiza had on Wednesday raised an alarm saying that her husband had been abducted. She said she suspected the husbands brother for the abduction as relations had strained after their marriage. But later in the evening,it turned out that Chand Mohammad had not been abducted and that he was in Delhi. He flatly denied his wifes claims,saying he had gone out on his own. There was no word from Chand Mohammad on Thursday. He did not take calls on his cellphone. Rana Ghuman,a family friend who stayed overnight at his home,said Fiza was very upset over her husbands absence. All this while,she has been saying that my life has no meaning without him, Ghuman said. Around 11 am on Thursday,the couples home witnessed high drama when Fiza was found unconscious in her bedroom. Two Mohali Police constables,stationed outside the house following Wednesdays events,ran into the house on hearing shrieks. They saw empty strips of Alprazolam on the bedroom floor. Family members and neighbours took Fiza to a private clinic,where she was referred to the hospital in Sector 32. The hospitals Dr Jeet Ram Kashyap said Fiza had consumed 25 tablets of Alprazolam. She arrived at the hospital around 11.45 am and told us that she had consumed 25 tablets of Alprazolam,which is used for inducing sleep and also acts as anti depressant, he said. Senior Superintendent of Police (Mohali) Jatinder Singh Aulakh said Fiza would be arrested once declared fit by the doctors.
