Family Bonding
Sensing that there was a realistic chance of Kanimozhi getting bail in the 2G spectrum scam case on Thursday, her step-brothers and DMK leaders M K Stalin and M K Alagiri have flown to Delhi from Chennai. Being a cabinet minister,Alagiri is unlikely to visit the court when the case comes up for hearing but Stalin, insiders say, would be present. The presence of the two brothers is being seen as an attempt to project that DMK patriarch M Karunanidhis entire family was united behind Kanimozhi in her hour of need.
Bittersweet Protest
A Letter of protest has landed at the Railway Ministry from the sweetmeat makers of Agra. They want the Railways to allow the sale of the famous petha at the Agra railway station. Apparently, due to a lawsuit, private vendors are not allowed to sell this iconic sweetmeat at the station. The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporations stall there, the letter claims,is not enough to cater to the huge demand from passing passengers since the duration of halts are too short for them to shop. The Agra Division of North Central Railway has been facing these protest for long. Now the sweetmeat owners want to take it a notch up and plead with IRCTC and its parent body, the Railway Ministry. They are calling this a violation of the consumers right to buy petha.
Book Mark
FORMER Delhi Police Commissioner Yudhvir Singh Dadwal, who retired as Director General of Sashtra Seema Bal SSB on October 31,is planning to write a book. Thought Process
KEEPING in line with changes and opportunities in the civilian world, cadets at the National Defence Academy NDA will soon be getting more choices in their educational curriculum. While studies take a back seat as cadets are pushed to their physical limits during the grueling three-year course, they will now get the option of choosing from electives that will be of use later in life. The idea is to create more thinking soldiers, who can specialise in different fields of study.
Membership Bid
AUSTRALIA is seeking a non-permanent seat at the UN Security Council for the year 2013-14. While the recent Commonwealth Heads of Governments Meeting in Perth offered a good opportunity to secure the support of a large number of countries for its candidature,Australia was careful to avoid being seen to be lobbying at a gathering where it was playing host. So it tried to be a tad subtle. A packet was placed in the suite of every head of delegation, which contained campaign stickers, sovenier and stationery, hoping that the message would not be lost.
