Dibakar ties up with PVR for his film Shanghai

Shanghai is a raw,edgy and very contemporary political thriller revolving around a prominent politician’s assasination.

After winning critical acclaim and box-office success with his last film Love Sex Aur Dhokha that was produced by Ekta Kapoor,Dibakar Banerjee has tied up with PVR Pictures Limited,for his next film Shanghai,a political thriller. Directed by Dibakar,the film will be financed and distributed by PVR Pictures. Says Ajay Bijli,Chairman and Managing Director,PVR Group,“PVR Pictures wants to make films with accomplished directors. We have been big fans of Dibakar’s movies right from Khosla Ka Ghosla to Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! and LSD. So when this opportunity came along,both my brother Sanjeev and I were very excited.” The film will go on the floors in April 2011.

Dibakar,however,says that nothing has been finalised yet. He lets on that the film has three main characters,which he will announce next month along with the cast.

Dibakar is known to experiment with his storytelling – his LSD was shot digitally and was visually new and radical,comprising three stories. For Shanghai,which is based on a very violent political incident,Dibakar says,“It is about the three characters’ hunt to go to the core of the mystery,which is why we will keep moving back to the incident,” informs the director.

The filmmaker has also expressed a wish to do a film with NFDC. Says he,“NFDC is consistently distributing and showcasing Indian films in the international market and not just to the diaspora audience. If you do a project with them,you get international exposure.”

Dismissing all reports of having fallen out with Ekta Kapoor after LSD,he informs that he is in talks with her for another film. just as “talk with PVR was going on even when I was making LSD.” Incidentally,LSD is being showcased at the I View Film 2010 in New York that is being held between September 18to 26,which Dibakar will be attending.
