Mahendra Singh Dhonis wedding to school mate Sakshi Rawat in Dehradun on Sunday has seen congratulations pouring in from all sides. However,his fans in Jharkhand,Dhonis home town Ranchi were a disappointed lot. No one except his relatives and two friends Santosh Lal and Sudesh Mahato,former Deputy chief minister,were able to be part of the marriage function. Dam Maro Dam,Mit Jaye Gam wrote Team India skippers fan Jayshankar in his email to another fan Sudhakar. But as the news of Dhoni holding a party in Ranchi on July 7 trickling in,there was finally cause for cheer. The joy was best expressed by a jubilant group of his fans who gathered outside his new bunglow at Harmu and danced.
Sorens no to elections
With Presidents rule continuing in Jharkhand,a demand for the Assembly polls to be held in tandem with the Bihar Assembly polls is gaining ground. The demand raised by the BJPs state unit president and former deputy chief minister Raghuvar Das,was subsequently backed by the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha,CPI ML and the Rashtriya Janata Dal as well. While the leaders of these parties have sought the dissolution of the Assembly,currently in suspended animation,JMM president Shibu Soren has put on record his opposition to fresh elections. Soren wants a chance to prove his majority on the floor of the house. No body wants elections right now. We want the Central rule to end and a popular government formed under the JMM.
The tribal agenda
British photographer Robert Wallis,whose pictures depict the lives of the tribals in Jharkhand and its neighbouring states of Chattisgarh,Orissa and West Bengal,is set to exhibit them at an exhibition in London on July 10. Wallis has travelled extensively in South East Asia and these tribal dominated states in India. While the aim of the exercise was to explore ways to provide showcase the plight of tribals,the police suspect Wallis works was a brain child of the Maoists. A senior police officer reportedly told his colleagues that Walliss single-point agenda was to paint a grim view of the tribals lives since he failed to depict any of the success stories among them. The officer said that many tribals had managed to forge success stories for themselves.
Scam hits police
Recruitment scams are proving to be the bane of police recruitment in many a state. A police recruitment scam has led to the Jharkhand police taking some drastic steps in the matter. After a DIG-rank officer was booked on charges of perpetrating a recruitment scam in Jharkhands Deoghar,Jamtara and Dumka district,with the twin aim of preventing corruption and filling up 10,000 vacancies for the post of constables,assistant sub inspectors and sub inspectors,Jharkhand police has decided to outsource the process to recruitment agencies. The Jharkhand police follows in the footsteps of its counterparts in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. As per the plan,these yet to be hired agencies are to hold tests,evaluate scripts and declared results.
