Even as the top BJP leadership persuaded the Bihar party chief to consider taking back his resignation,C P Thakur on Saturday left for Nagpur via Delhi along with state BJP co-incharge Dharmendra Pradhan.
However, soon before leaving for Delhi,Thakur said he hoped to resolve the problem after meeting party national president Nitin Gadkari, but he changed his tone in Delhi, saying the party was not fiefdom of one man read Sushil Kumar Modi.
BJP sources told The Sunday Express even though there could be little change in candidates, the party had been mulling over options to change any candidate near Patna to accommodate Thakurs son Vivek. Thakur is peeved at Bankipore seat going to West Patna now Digha of JD-U quota MLA Nitin Navin.
The party can now give Thakur a major role on the campaign committee. The crucial candidate selection phase is over, said a senior BJP leader, adding that neither of the two seats of Brahmpur and Dehri, for which the party had not yet announced candidates, would suit Vivek.
Bikram seat near Patna might well be an option for Vivek but removing Ramjanam Sharma from there might hurt the BJPs prospects as Sharma might turn a rebel to contest as an Independent, said a BJP source.
Thakur, who was instrumental in playing up bataidari issue with upper castes, especially with fellow bhumihars,is upset at the state BJP playing too much ultra-OBC politics, rather than playing good foil to Nitish Kumar by trying to appease upper castes.
