Theatre actors Samir Iqbal Patel and Payal Kapoor’s first play Baat Baat Mein Bigdey Haalat, under their production house, follows the adventures of two couples.

Couples usually take off to a retreat to escape the humdrum of daily life and spend some quality time with each other. But when two couples are allotted the same room in a hotel,it not only leads to chaos but also results into a comedy of errors. Presented by Samir Iqbal Patel and Payal Kapoor under their new firm,Full House Productions,Baat Baat Mein Bigdey Haalat is a situational comedy that is based on this premise. Set in a hotel,it revolves around the adventures of a married couple – Akhil and Mili– and Edwin and Sheryl, who are dating. They are allotted the same room by the owners,a lunatic Harry Singh and a drunkard Major Lehrida. While Akhil’s and Mili’s honeymoon turns out to be an adventure of a different kind,Edwin’s secret birthday celebrations with Sheryl are a big shock for his wife Lubna, who reaches the hotel to surprise him. What follows is utter confusion! Apart from Samir and Payal, the play also stars Rakesh Bedi,Chaitanya Adib and Arun Kate.

Scripted and directed by Samir,Baat Baat Mein Bigdey Haalat also marks the debut of Payal, daughter of veteran actor Goga Kapoor,as a producer. The actor, who has been actively involved in English and Hindi theatre since a decade, says,“Samir and I have been friends since a long time and worked together quite often. We thought of starting a production house to produce the kind of work that we believe in. We started off with a play,as theatre has been our passion, but eventually we want to produce television serials and films that have good scripts and provide wholesome entertainment.”

Samir shared the idea of Baat Baat Mein Bigdey Haalat with Payal and it clicked instantly. “We were clear that our work has to entertain everyone. The play is an absolute laugh-riot that provides two hours of paisa-vasool entertainment to the audience,” she adds. The production also proved to be learning curve for Payal as she had to strike a balance between her duties as an actor and producer. “It was a little taxing. Usually as an actor you just do your job and go back home, but as a producer you have to put in time and effort and ensure that everything goes smoothly,” she explains.

Samir, who started off his career with theatre and has scripted television shows, got the idea for the play from his personal experience. “I had gone to Goa two years ago during the carnival. I had met some bizarre characters on that trip. That proved to be a take-off point for me to script the play. In Baat Baat Mein Bigdey Haalat the characters are funny but the situations are funnier,” he explains.

Apart from premiering in Mumbai, the production will also be staged in Delhi,Chandigarh,Chennai,Kolkata,Nagpur and Pune. The duo also has plans to present an English version of it titled as Life is Beautifool. “It will be a Hinglish play. Though the plot will remain the same, the one-liners and the humour will be more in sync with the English-speaking crowd,” adds Samir.

Baat Baat Mein Bigdey Haalat will premiere on October 3 at Rang Sharda Auditorium in Mumbai.
