A day after three reports of the CAG estimated losses worth lakhs of crores in power, aviation and coal sectors, the Congress on Saturday lashed out at the CAG,accusing it of adding zeroes that sensationalises and vitiates the environment.
Pointing out long-term implications of a Constitutional institution not maintaining the fine balance and deciding to transgress,Congress spokesman Manish Tewari said the Supreme Court had not endorsed the presumptive loss of Rs 1.76 lakh crore pointed out by the CAG in 2G spectrum allocation.
The Supreme Court, while cancelling the 2G licences, did not make any observation on the presumptive loss. If they had been convinced of the averments of CAG,they would have endorsed the presumptive loss. CAG will be well served by keeping this in mind and by not adding
zeroes, which unnecessarily sensationalises and vitiates the environment, he said.
