While Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday apologised to the Lok Sabha on behalf of the government for party MP Beni Prasad Vermas undesirable remarks against former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the episode has yet again exposed the poor floor management of the ruling party, which appears to be sorely missing the services of former Parliamentary Affairs Minister P R Dasmunshi.
When Dasmunshi, who has been in coma for the last several months, was Parliamentary Affairs Minister,he would walk over to the Opposition Benches to pacify frayed tempers.
In sharp contrast,on Tuesday evening, while Opposition MPs were shouting slogans and throwing paper balls to disrupt Home Minister P Chidambarams reply to the debate on Liberhan Commission report,it was only the Ministers outstretched right hand that prevented agitated ruling party MPs from rushing to the Well of the House even as Minister for Parliamentary Affairs P K Bansal and his deputy V Narayansami simply sat watching.
The choice of Verma and Jagdambika Pal as ruling party speakers in the LS debate also came as a surprise. While Verma is not known for his oratory,Pals choice caused some embarrassment when BJP president Rajnath Singh pointed out that Pal was also involved in kar seva and that his name finds a mention in the Liberhan Commission report.
