The First Information Report (FIR) was lodged by Vijay Madhukar Jaybhay, a resident of Maharashtra’s Buldhana, at the Wanavdi police station.
The Pune City police have booked noted cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon Dr Ranjit Jagtap and his colleagues for alleged negligence that caused the death of a patient who underwent bypass surgery at Ram Mangal Heart Foundation in Fatima Nagar, Wanavdi.
Dr Jagtap denied the allegations and said he would be taking legal recourse in the matter.
The First Information Report (FIR) in this regard was lodged by Vijay Madhukar Jaybhay, 44, a resident of Maharashtra’s Buldhana, at the Wanavdi police station on Friday.
The police said the complainant Vijay’s mother, Leelawati Jaybhay, 62, was admitted to the Ram Mangal Heart Foundation for treatment concerning a heart ailment in October last year. She passed away following a bypass surgery on November 19, 2024.
The family members then filed a complaint with the Pune City police alleging negligence by the doctors. As per the procedure, the police forwarded the matter to Sassoon Hospital.
“A committee of medical experts from Sassoon Hospital submitted an inquiry report to the police. Based on the findings of the inquiry report, the victim’s son filed an FIR on Friday. Further investigation is being done,” said Ashish Jadhav, Sub-Inspector, who is investigating the case.
Denying the allegations, Dr Jagtap told The Indian Express that he plans to pursue legal action in the matter. “The patient suffered pneumonitis at least thrice and had bad lung condition before she was brought to us. We treated her successfully and she was discharged in good condition,” he stated.
