The contradictory stance of the CPM central leadership and the West Bengal Government on the Centres ban on CPI (Maoist) was due to lack of communication between party general secretary Prakash Karat and Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee. While the CPM leadership in Delhi expressed reservation against the ban,the state leadership was supportive of it. Home Minister P Chidambaram had,in fact, informed the CM about the Centres decision in advance. But Karat was not in the know. With the state Government contradicting the central leaderships stance and thereby causing embarrassment to the party,it was decided that the state would accept the ban but enforce it on its own terms. Comrades in Delhi are now talking about the need for better communication and coordination between Karat and Bhattacharjee. Who will bell the cat though?
