CBI to quiz ex-IB officer in Sadiq Jamal encounter case

The input given by Sudhir Kumar was the alleged reason for the killing of Jamal in 2003.

The CBI is planning to question former special director of Intelligence Bureau Sudhir Kumar in the 2003 Sadiq Jamal encounter case. After questioning,the agency plans to file a supplementary chargesheet that will focus on the role of the IB in the alleged encounter,officials said.

The CBI said by questioning Kumar,a 1968 batch IPS officer,it aims to understand the sequence of events that led to the encounter.

The input given by Kumar was the alleged reason for the killing of Jamal,a resident of Bhavnagar,by Gujarat Crime Branch in an encounter near Galaxy Cinema on the outskirts of Ahmedabad on January 13,2003.

Kumar,who retired as a member of the Central Vigilance Commission,was posted as special director of the IB when the incident took place.

Another senior IB officer,Rajendra Kumar,who is set to retire in the next couple of days is already under CBI watch in both Sadiq and Ishrat Jahan encounter cases.

The CBI had last month quizzed four senior IB officials of Mumbai branch who were part of the encounter.
