Walking through the rough streets of Shadi Khampur in West Delhi,if you chance upon Safdar Studios red-painted shutters and a towering spray-painted image of Fidel Castro, dont be surprised. After all,the studio started by activist group Jan Natya Manch earlier this year claims to be a communist venture. However, besides Castro, there is Mahatma Gandhi,in his iconic dhoti and rounded glasses, and Habib Tanveer wearing his beret. The iconic figures are a part of an untitled public art mural created by Chennai-based artist Pravin Kannanur, who conceptualised it along with other artists such as Vishal Bhuwania,Nagamurti M. Preet,Raj Chauhan and Zakir Ali Lallan. Created last month, the mural is an articulate piece that even throws up references to Leonardo Da Vincis The Last Supper sprawled across the wall.
