Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Wednesday supported the demand by political parties here for removing a cartoon from an NCERT textbook that apparently insults the anti-Hindi agitation in the state.
Jayalalithaa, who remained silent for the past few days as other political outfits raised the protest, said the cartoon hurt the sentiments of Tamils apart from insulting the leaders of the anti-Hindi agitation that led to a regime change in the state.
The cartoon insulted not only the agitation but also the leaders of the protest,Periyar EV Ramasamy the founder of Dravida Kazhagam and C N Annadurai the founder-leader of DMK,and also those who sacrificed their lives during the struggle, she said in a statement.
Instead of using the cartoon,Jayalalithaa said, the NCERT should have opted for photographs of the struggle to explain the agitations to students. The offensive cartoon, she added, should be removed immediately.
