Cancellation of NY flights to impact passenger numbers

The country has witnessed a fall in domestic passenger numbers in the last six months but international passenger numbers has been able to register a growth of of 3 per cent

The closure of airports in the New York area due to Superstorm Sandy may impact the growth in international passenger number to and from India,as passengers travelling to the New York area constitute around 7.5 per cent of the daily outbound international passenger number.

The country has witnessed a fall in domestic passenger numbers in the last six months but international passenger numbers has been able to register a growth of of 3 per cent.

This is a time when lot of people travel to India for Diwali. We expect the airports to be restored in the next 48 hours and the clearance of backlog may take another week, said Keyur Joshi,COO at Makemytrip.com.
