Clashes force Lanka to impose curfew in Colombo
Colombo: A Buddhist mob attacked a mosque in Colombo and at least 12 people were injured. The mob threw stones at a three-storey mosque and nearby houses in a central Colombo neighbourhood during evening prayers on Saturday leading to clashes which forced authorities to enforce curfew in the Lankan capital,police said. No uranium deal with Iran: Zimbabwe
HARARE: Zimbabwes state radio said the countrys ministry of mines controlled by President Robert Mugabe has not struck a deal to sell uranium to Iran for its nuclear program. The radio said Sunday that mining ministry dismissed reports in the British media that the two countries have signed an agreement on uranium exports as a malicious and blatant lie. AP
Volcano erupts in Indonesia,6 killed
MAUMERE: Officials were searching Sunday for the bodies of two children as small explosions could be heard from a volcano that erupted on Saturday,killing six people on a Palue island in Indonesia. Nearly 3,000 people have been evacuated from the area on Palue island. AP
Gunmen kill 5 troops at Yemen LNG plant
ADEN: Suspected al Qaeda militants killed five Yemeni soldiers early on Sunday in an attack on forces guarding the countrys only LNG export terminal,a local official said. The official said the gunmen infiltrated a checkpoint guarding the Balhaf LNG terminal killed five troops and fled in a vehicle. AP
Pakistan: Toxic liquor consumption kills 9
Karachi: At least nine persons were killed and 13 others hospitalised after consuming illicit local liquor in a shanty in Karachi. Nine persons belonging to Azam Basti died early Sunday after consuming local liquor which turned out to be poisonous,police said. Thirteen more have been hospitalised with the condition of seven critical, police said. PTi
3 NATO troops killed in Afghanistan
Kabul: NATO said three of its service members were killed Sunday in eastern Afghanistan. The NATO statement did not provide a nationality nor details of the type of attack that killed the three. The deaths bring to 103 the number of foreign troops killed so far this year. AP
