Putins make rare public appearance,reaffirm marriage
MOSCOW: Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and his wife Lyudmila made a rare public appearance over the weekend seeking to reaffirm their marriage. In a video on the governments Website the couple spoke to a census-taker who visited Putins residence outside Moscow. Putin,58,has been married to Lyudmila,52,since 1983. Recently there has been speculation that Putin planned to marry Olympic champion gymnast Alina Kabayeva. In the new video,the Putins tell the census-taker they are married.
2 Indians freed after Manila hostage ops
KUALA LUMPUR: Two Indian nationals and a Filipino were rescued while five kidnappers killed in a shootout in a province near Manila,the police said. The hostages were identified as Pavitter Singh and Balvir Singh and Luciano Clemen,a Filipino,who were kidnapped from Marilao town in Bulacan province Thursday,Xinhua news agency reported from Manila.
Pirates abduct 43 sailors off Kenya
SEOUL: Somali pirates have hijacked a South Korean-operated fishing boat Keummi 305 with 43 sailors,Seouls Foreign Ministry said Sunday. Two South Korean,two Chinese and 39 Kenyans were aboard the Kenya-registered trawler when it was attacked October 9 off Kenyas Lamu Island,South Koreas Foreign Ministry said.
Thai Red Shirts stage mass rally
AYUTTHAYA: Thousands of Thailands Red Shirts Sunday joined a rally demanding the release of their leaders by the government. The police estimated 3,000 people had joined the gathering in the football stadium in the town of Ayutthaya near Bangkok. Over 1,000 police were deployed for the event.
