Yemen arrests seven suspects
San8217;a: A Yemeni security official says at least seven suspected al-Qaida militants have been arrested in connection with an attack on Britain8217;s No 2 diplomat in the country. The official said on Thursday the suspects were detained in the Yemeni capital a day earlier,hours after assailants shot a rocket at a British convoy. Four people were wounded in the attack,including an embassy official.
NRI jailed in UK for blackmail
London: An Indian-origin man who joined a colleague to threaten and blackmail a wealthy businessman into paying them 1 million pounds in Leicester has been jailed for eight years. The two blackmailers have been identified as Diljit Rana 33 and Lee Taberer 39. They terrorised the unnamed businessman,threatening to kidnap his family if he did not hand over 1 million pounds.

Desmond Tutu retires from public life at 79
Cape Town: Desmond Tutu on Thursday officially began his retirement,bringing the curtain down on a career that saw him win a Nobel Peace Prize for battling apartheid before emerging as South Africa8217;s conscience. Tutu announced in July that he would step down from public life on his 79th birthday,which he will celebrate today on board a cruise ship docked in Cape Town,where he served as archbishop for the Anglican Church. He8217;s serious about quieting down, Tutu8217;s spokesman Dan Vaughan said. He will now be refusing most of the interview requests he receives.
