Iran to free 1 US hiker in holiday clemency
TEHRAN: Iran said on Thursday it will free one of three Americans jailed for more than 13 months in an act of clemency to mark the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramzan. The Culture Ministry sent a text message to reporters telling them to come to a Tehran hotel on Saturday morning to witness the release. Offering congratulations on Eid al-Fitr, the ministry text message said,referring to the feast that marks the end of Ramzan.
Cubas Communism doesnt work: Fidel
HAVANA: Cubas Communist economic model has come in for criticism from an unlikely source Fidel Castro. Fidel told a visiting American journalist and a US-Cuba policy expert that the islands state-dominated system is in need of change. Jeffrey Goldberg,a national correspondent for The Atlantic magazine,asked Castro if Cubas economic system was still worth exporting,and Castro replied: The Cuban model doesnt even work for us anymore, Goldberg wrote Wednesday in a post on his Atlantic blog.
Envoys of US,UK,France meet Prachanda
Kathmandu: Amid a political crisis in Nepal,envoys of the US,Britain and France,the key donor nations,on Thursday met Maoist leader Prachanda and discussed the current stalemate in Parliament and issues like the extension of the tenure of the UN mission in the country. During the meeting,Prachanda and the foreign envoys discussed the political deadlock in Nepal and matters relating to the ongoing peace process and extension of the term of the UNMIN,Maoist sources said.
