Shahzad makes first court appearance

NEW YORK: Pakistani-US terror suspect Faisal Shahzad appeared in a Manhattan federal courtcourt for the first time since his arrest two weeks ago in the botched Times Square bombing plot to face terrorism and weapons charges and was ordered to remain behind bars. Shahzad just said yes when asked to confirm the accuracy of a financial statement in his arraignment proceedings that lasted 15 minutes.

Iran defiant,says UNSC wont approve sanctions

TEHRAN: Irans leaders say they have nothing to fear from a renewed push for UN sanctions. Washingtons announcement on Tuesday of a new sanctions draft backed by China and Russia came a day after Iran agreed a uranium swap with Brazil and Turkey. Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said there was no chance that a new round of sanctions would be approved by UN Security Council.

Crash probe: Non-crew members were in cockpit

MOSCOW: Unauthorised persons were in the cockpit of Polish President Lech Kaczynskys aircraft before it crashed in Russia last month,Chairperson of CIS Interstate Aviation Committee Tatyana Anodina said Wednesday. The aircraft crashed on April 10 when it attempted to land in thick fog,killing all 96 people on board.

13 students injured in latest China knife attack

BEIJING: At least 13 students were injured on Wednesday when they were attacked by five to six men with knives and cleavers after an argument in south Chinas Hainan Province. The pre-dawn incident is the latest in a series of knife attacks in the country.
