No place for man with burqa wife
Paris: French Prime Minister Francois Fillon said on Wednesday he would sign a decree refusing French nationality to a man who forced his wife to wear the full Islamic veil because he has no place in our country. Fillon told Europe 1 Radio that he would sign the decree issued by Immigration Minister Eric Besson. Its French law, Fillon said.
Anwar rejects sodomy charges
Kuala Lumpur: Malaysian Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim on Wednesday denounced sodomy charges against him claiming that they were trumped up by his rivals as his accuser gave an explicit testimony during the trial. Twenty-five-year-old Mohd Saiful,a former aide of Anwar,claimed that Anwar asked him to have sex with him after he went to his apartment on June 26,2008 to deliver a document.
Court to rule again on Bashir genocide
THE HAGUE: Appeals judges ordered the International Criminal Court on Wednesday to reconsider its decision not to indict Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir on charges of genocide in Darfur. The ruling could pave the way for Bashir to be indicted with humanitys worst crime attempting to wipe out entire ethnic groups in the war-ravaged province.
Bangla welcomes SC verdict on Constitution
Dhaka: The Bangladesh Supreme Courts ruling to nullify the 1979 constitutional amendment that had allowed religion-based political parities to flourish in the country has been welcomed with the government calling it a victory of constitutionalism. Legal analysts and media said it paved way for restoring the constitutional spirit of secularism and democracy.
Chinese dissident nominated for Nobel
Prague: Former Czech President Vaclav Havel has joined forces with lawmakers and anti-Communist dissidents to nominate a Chinese dissident for the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize. Liu Xiaobo was sentenced in December to 11 years for co-writing an appeal titled Charter 08,calling for expanded political freedoms in China and an end to Communist Party dominance.
