Man stabs 15 students,teacher at China school

Beijing: A man wielding a knife broke into a primary school in southern China and stabbed 15 students and a teacher on Wednesday,the same day another school attacker was executed for killing eight children last month,police and state media reported. None of the 15 students nor teacher is in life-threatening condition. The attacker broke into Leicheng No. 1 Primary School in Leizhou city at 3 pm and hacked at the students and teacher,the official Xinhua News Agency said. The man is in police custody.

Chavez to counter opponents on Twitter

CARACAS: Hugo Chavez is starting to use Twitter to counter his opponents online,forcing a President who often talks for hours to sum up each thought in 140 characters or less. Chavez urged Venezuelans to watch his newly created account chavezcandanga after midnight on Tuesday,saying that point is when I let loose. His first tweet in Spanish popped up at 14 minutes after midnight: Hey hows it going? I appeared like I said I would: at midnight. Im off to Brazil. And very happy to work for Venezuela. We will be victorious!! Chavez had more than 18,000 followers even before posting a single tweet,and that increased to more than 46,000 by midday on Wednesday.

US man charged in airline bomb hoax faces jail

New York: A US man who reportedly had served in Iraq and Afghanistan was charged on Wednesday with making a false bomb threat on a Delta Airlines flight from Paris to the US. Derek Stansberry,27,faces up to 20 years in prison if found guilty of interfering with the flight bound to Atlanta on Tuesday and five years for pretending that he had a bomb,the Department of Justice said. Making false bomb threats on an aircraft and interfering with the flight crew are serious crimes that have serious consequences, said the US prosecutor for Maine,Paula Silsby.

Ex-guard says Osama wants to use nuclear arms: Report

Dubai: Al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden has sought and wanted to use nuclear arms,former bodyguard Nasser al-Bahri said in an interview with an Arab daily published on Wednesday. Sheikh Osama used to dream of possessing nuclear weapons,and I am sure that if he were to get his hands on a nuclear weapon,he would not have hesitated to use it, the Yemeni guard told the London-based Al-Quds Al-Arabi. Bahri,who now lives in Yemen,said he was proud to have worked as a guard for a great personality,saying he was instructed to kill Osama if that was the only way to avoid his capture.

Urns with human ashes found in Lake Zurich

GENEVA: Swiss authorities are investigating a macabre discovery: Dozens of urns filled with human ashes stuck in the mud beneath Lake Zurich. The surprise find is drawing attention to some uncomfortable aspects of assisted suicide,a practice permitted in Switzerland but which is coming under increasing public scrutiny. Zurich police wont say if they have evidence directly connecting the rust-coloured urns to Dignitas,a Swiss group that has helped hundreds of people including Americans,Britons,Germans and Frenchmen take their lives in recent years.
