Russia: Bomber was wife of Pak trained terrorist

MOSCOW: The 28-year-old IT teacher Maryam Sharipova,one of the two suicide bombers who blew herself up at a Moscow Metro station was the wife of terrorist leader Magomedali Vagapov from Daghestan region who was trained in Pakistan,Russias anti-terror agency National Anti-terrorism Centre,said on Tuesday. The IT teacher was identified as the second suicide bomber responsible for the attack on Lubyanka metro station on March 29. Russian investigators identified Dzhanet Abdurakhmanova,the 17-year-old widow of a Muslim militant slain by government forces,as the other bomber.

Death toll in Brazil floods rises to 50

RIO DE JANIERO: The death toll in severe floods in Brazil triggered by torrential rains rose to 50 on across the state of Rio de Janiero,officials said,adding that 20 people were also missing. Civil defence officials said 26 of the dead had been killed in the coastal city of Rio,a popular tourist destination. Rio citys mayor Eduardo Paes urged residents to stay home.

VENTERSDORP: Whites and blacks faced off angrily in front of a heavily guarded courthouse Tuesday where a teenager and a farm worker,who reportedly confessed to killing white supremacist leader Eugene Terreblanche in a wage dispute,were charged with murder. Earlier,police officers rushed to separate nearly 2,000 people split into white and black groups after a middle-aged white woman sprayed an energy drink on the blacks.

Women held in UK for corpse on plane

LONDON: The police arrested two women at a British airport after they reportedly tried to smuggle a corpse onto a flight. Police said Tuesday the women were detained at Liverpools John Lennon airport on suspicion of failing to give notification of death of a 91-year-old man. The BBC said the women placed the man,a relative of theirs,into a wheelchair and made him wear sunglasses to get him aboard a flight.
