WASHINGTON: An Iranian nuclear scientist who has been missing since June has defected to the US and is helping the CIA,ABC news reported on Tuesday. Citing sources briefed on the defection,the network said Shahram Amiri,a nuclear physicist in his early 30s,defected as part of a long-planned operation to get him to leave Iran and resettle in the US. Amiri,a university researcher working for Irans Atomic Energy Organisation,disappeared in June.

Belgium approves ban on veils in public

BRUSSELS: A parliamentary committee voted Wednesday to ban the wearing of face-covering veils in public,a major step in the process that could make Belgium the first European country to impose such a religious prohibition. The full House of Representatives is expected to vote on the issue late April.

3 killed,6 injured in US shooting

WASHINGTON: A drive-by shooting killed three people and wounded six in the nations capital and three suspects were arrested,officials said. A gunman sprayed bullets into a crowd Tuesday night,Washington Police Chief said. The shootings of six men and three women happened around 7:30 pm.

Bicycle bomb kills 13 in Afghanistan

KABUL: A bomb concealed on a bicycle killed 13 people Wednesday in Afghanistan. Forty-five people,including eight children,were wounded in the blast,which occurred just north of Lashkar Gah,the capital of Helmand province,deputy provincial police chief said.
