Iran vows revenge on Israel over professors death
TEHRAN: Irans interior minister vowed to take revenge on Israel over the slaying of a physics professor in a bomb attack. Officials have blamed an exiled opposition group,accusing it of acting on behalf of Israel and US. Washington denied involvement. Interior minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar promised revenge on Zionists. The Tehran University professor,Masoud Ali Mohammadi,was killed when a bomb-rigged motorcycle exploded outside his home January 12.
Chile ends Left rule,elects billionaire
SANTIAGO: Billionaire Sebastian Pinera was elected Chiles President on Sunday in a political shift to the right after 20 years of leftist rule and will try to build on policies that made the economy Latin Americas most stable. Pinera won almost 52 per cent of Sundays run-off vote,the first time the right has wrested power from the center-left since Gen Augusto Pinochets 1973-1990 dictatorship ended.
Lanka pre-poll violence: 3 killed
COLOMBO: The death toll due to political violence ahead of the January 26 presidential polls in Sri Lanka,rose to five with three persons being killed on Monday. A supporter of President Mahinda Rajapaksa was killed in Madurankuliya area. A supporter of opposition candidate Sarath Fonseka was killed in Wariyapola region.
