Obama rating slips to 47
WASHINGTON: The job approval rating of US President,Barack Obama,has slipped to 47 per cent,the latest Gallup Poll said on Tuesday,adding that this is a new low for the administration till date. Obamas approval rating briefly rose to 52 per cent last week after he announced his new Afghanistan policy,Gallup said. But the slight bump in support Obama received proved to be very short-lived,as his approval rating slipped to 47 per cent in December 4-6 polling.
Zardari made billions after cases dropped
ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari gained billions of dollars when graft cases against him were dropped under a law that has now expired,according to documents given by Pakistans anti-corruption watchdog to the Supreme Court on Tuesday. The papers provided by the National Accountability Bureau showed Zardari had been accused of amassing assets worth 1.5 billion and Rs 22 billion during the period when his slain wife Benazir Bhutto was PM. Zardari has dismissed the charges.
Iran cracks down on protesters
TEHRAN: Pro-government Basij militiamen assaulted university students demonstrating for a second day and hard-liners on motorcycles harassed opposition leader Mir Hussein Moussavi at his office on Tuesday,in signs of a possible intensified crackdown on anti-government protests. This comes a day after thousands participated in protests around the country.
