MINSK: At least seven poll candidates and hundreds of Opposition demonstrators were being held on Monday after the police cracked down on a protest against the re-election of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko. The central election commission declared that Lukashenko,in power since 1994,had secured nearly 80 per cent of the vote. Opposition parties said the polls were rigged.

Iran hangs 11 Sunnis convicted of attacks

TEHRAN: Iran hanged 11 men authorities said were members of an armed Sunni militant group convicted of bombings,the official IRNA news agency reported. The executions on Monday were seen as retribution against the Jundallah for an attack last week on Shia worshippers that killed 39 people in Chahbahar city.

Malaysia tourist bus crash kills 28

KUALA LUMPUR: A double-decker bus carrying Thai tourists overturned on a Malaysian highway Monday,killing 28 people. The tourists were heading to Kuala Lumpur after a trip to the Cameron Highlands in central Malaysia when their bus crashed into a protective barrier,police said.
