Fishermans kin refuse to meet Italian minister
KOLLAM: The family of Jelastine,one of the two fishermen allegedly killed by Italian marines,on Sunday refused to meet visiting Deputy Foreign Minister Steffan de Mistura fearing it would harm their case. Though the Italian team tried to have a meeting with the wife and two sons of Jelastine with the help of a Catholic priest,the family turned down the request. The state police also objected to the move on security grounds.
Farmer beaten to death in Bengal
SURI: A farmer was beaten to death by a group of people at Harishpur in Birbhum district of West Bengal on Sunday,the police said. The trouble started over a dispute involving job card of Dulal Sheikh 35 during 100-day work in the village. Sheikh was beaten up with lathis by his opponents. He died on his way to hospital. One person has been arrested.
Four Andhra excise officials arrested
HYDERABAD: The Anti-Corruption Bureau here has arrested four senior excise officials for their alleged links with the liquor mafia. The officials including the then deputy commissioner A V Narasimha Rao,excise superintendent K Madhusudan Rao,prohibition and excise superintendent M Shankaraiah and excise inspector D S Nath in Khammam district,were arrested on Saturday after searches were carried out and they were produced before a court.
